Annotation: 日本に於いて古くから親しまれてきた「猫(cat, 英語)」を取り上げ、「猫」の呼称の由来について縄文期にまで遡って考察する。「猫」の人間との係りの中で発生し使われてきた「猫」を含む成句や諺について言語学的な立場から考察する。「猫」についての縄文期の記憶が現代に至るまで「猫」にまつわる言語表現の中に影響を与えていることを考察する。「猫」を主語とする成句や諺について、格助詞の「が」と取り立て助詞（副助詞）の「は」の使い分けについて詳しく考察する。これらの考察の上に立って、「猫」を含む成句や諺の意味が、古代から近代までの「猫」と人間との係りの中で決定づけられていることを理解する。 Taking up cats, which have been long cherished in Japan, we examine the origin of the name "cat" by tracing back to the Jomon period, and analyze, from a linguistic standpoint, idioms and proverbs containing a word "cat" that have arisen in relations between humans and cats. We explore how Jomon-period memories of cats have influenced linguistic expressions related to cats up to the present day. We detail the function of emphatic particle "wa" and case particle "ga" in idioms and proverbs that contain the word "cat". We try to understand that their meanings are to be determined in relations between humans and cats from ancient times to modern times
