Author: Alimov, Oqiliddin

Annotation: In response to the complex challenges and global trends arising from climate change, states are reassessing their energy strategies in pursuit of sustainable development. In this context, the Government of Japan has also intensified its efforts toward energy transition and decarbonization. Japan’s “Net Zero Emissions by 2050” strategy is being shaped by a range of significant political and economic factors. Among the most prominent are the country’s limited domestic energy resources, its geographically complex location, its dependence on non-democratic states for energy supplies, and its heightened vulnerability to geopolitical instability. This article analyzes the implications of these strategies for Japan’s energy security, its relations with major energy exporters in the Middle East, and its leadership role within the East Asian region.

Keywords: green energy diplomacy; Green Transformation (GX) initiative; Green Growth Strategy; “Net Zero Emissions by 2050” strategy; energy security; diversification of energy resources.
