Annotation: This article examines the semantic and functional features of verbs used in formal communication in the Japanese language from linguistic and pragmatic perspectives. Furthermore, the article explores the role of formal verbs in expressing social relationships, their function in reflecting status differences between speakers, and their pragmatic characteristics based on scholarly sources. The research also investigates the semantic transformations of formal verbs, their adaptation to communicative situations, and their connection with the concepts of respect and politeness in Japanese culture. In addition, the mechanisms of using formal verbs in speech and their functional roles are analyzed through relevant examples.
