Annotation: This article analyzes the functional and communicative features of toponyms reflected in folklore texts based on materials from the Kashkadarya region. In particular, it examines the nominative, deictic, informative, ethnological, mnemonic, and orientational functions found in the semantics of toponyms in oral folk texts. It also highlights differences in interpretations of the origins of toponyms, their semantic load, and their role in transmitting ethnocultural information. The analysis is based on folk legends collected in the Kashkadarya region and reveals the importance of toponyms in preserving collective memory and historical consciousness.
