Annotation: This article analyzes the role and significance of the source base in studying interethnic processes in the Zarafshan Valley from a comprehensive and methodological perspective. The research examines written historical sources, archival documents, statistical and demographic materials, and ethnographic observations as the main categories of sources, highlighting their scientific potential and limitations. Particular attention is given to the critical assessment of materials produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries under the Russian Empire. The study emphasizes the importance of considering the historical context, authorship, and ideological influences in the interpretation of sources. Furthermore, it substantiates the necessity of applying comparative and comprehensive analytical approaches in reconstructing interethnic relations. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the ethnic composition, demographic dynamics, and socio-economic interactions in the Zarafshan Valley.
