Annotation: This article analyzes the pedagogical potential of storytelling technology in the formation of a reading culture in primary school students. In particular, the issues of developing interest in reading through stories based on reading literacy textbooks for grades 3–4 and examples of world children's literature are highlighted. The article also presents scientific views related to modern pedagogical approaches, the theory of constructivism, Vygotsky's theory of socio-cultural development and the principles of competency-based education.
