Annotation: This article analyzes the historical and institutional role of state institutions in ensuring religious tolerance and interethnic harmony in Uzbekistan during the years of independence. The study substantiates that this policy was implemented not only through regulatory and legal documents, but also through institutional mechanisms that implement it. In particular, the coordination of the religious sphere, management of interethnic relations, the preventive function of the mahalla institution, and the practical results of cooperation with civil society structures are highlighted. Also, based on the experience of the tension in the Fergana Valley in 1990-1992 and the Andijan events of 2005, the process of transition from a “reactionary” approach to a “preventive and balancing” management model is scientifically explained. The article also shows the application of the Uzbek experience in accordance with international standards and in accordance with national conditions.
