Author: Sa’dullayev, Shohjahon

Annotation: This thesis analyzes the phonological and semantic features of lexical borrowings between Middle Indo-Aryan and East Iranian languages. The processes of sound changes, narrowing of meaning, broadening of meaning, metaphorical and metonymic migration observed in borrowed words are studied. The results of the study show that long-term cultural, religious and economic contacts between the peoples of Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent have left a deep mark on the language systems.

Keywords: Middle Indo-Aryan languages, East Iranian languages, lexical borrowing, phonological adaptation, semantic change, language contacts, etymology.
