Annotation: The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the concept and essence of the right to inheritance as a fundamental institution of civil law. The legal nature of the right to inherit, its place within the system of subjective property rights, and its role in the transfer of property upon the death of the decedent are examined. Particular attention is paid to the grounds for the emergence, exercise, and protection of inheritance rights, as well as to existing challenges in their legal regulation under contemporary socio-economic conditions. The author substantiates the need for further development and modernization of inheritance law in response to evolving social relations.
