Annotation: This article examines the theoretical and practical dimensions of lexicography, the classification of dictionaries, and the main stages of dictionary compilation. It also analyzes modern corpus-based and electronic lexicography. The scholarly contributions of A. Zohiriy, Ye. Polivanov, O. Hojiyev, and A. Madvaliev to the development of Uzbek lexicographic tradition are highlighted. Special attention is given to explanatory and bilingual dictionaries, the role of prescriptive and descriptive approaches, and the growing potential of online and digital lexicography. The study provides a systematic overview of the scientific principles and stages of dictionary creation, outlining the current state and future prospects of modern Uzbek lexicography.
