Annotation: The article examines occasionalisms as an important element of the poetic language of V.Mayakovsky and E.Yevtushenko. It analyzes approaches to defining occasionalism, its distinction from a potential word, as well as the functional and stylistic role of authorial neologisms in a literary text. Particular attention is paid to the fact that in VMayakovsky’s poetry occasionalisms are associated with linguistic innovation, whereas in E.Yevtushenko’s poetry they serve as a means of expression, irony, and individual authorial characterization. The research material shows that occasional formations in the idiostyle of both poets perform not only a nominative but also an aesthetic function.
Keywords: occasionalism, occasional word formation, poetic language, idiostyle, V.Mayakovsky, E.Yevtushenko, authorial neologism.
