Annotation: In this section we begin to study the quadratic family of functions, where c is invariant. While we consider this function to be simple, we find that its dynamics are surprisingly complex. In fact, this result was only fully studied in the 1990s. This is just the beginning of our story about this chapter, and its connection to dynamical systems is what will occupy our attention for the rest of the book. Here we will look at the two most important types of bifurcations that occur in dynamics. We will look at the remaining types later.
