Annotation: This article reviews the history of the study of kinship terms in Chinese. Kinship terms are one of the main units in the organization of spoken communication. They are widespread even in written communication in modern Chinese. These units cause difficulties in understanding for representatives of other nationalities, including Uzbeks, because they are more lacunae (i.e., do not correspond to the background knowledge of other ethnic groups). Describing the system of kinship terms is useful for the study of spoken and written language, for the compilation of explanatory dictionaries, as well as for every student of the Chinese language.
Keywords: Symmetry, asymmetry, family, kinship terms, male address, female address, couple address units, parent and child address units.
