Annotation: The article examines the historical, cultural and linguistic aspects of the interaction of Russian state entities with Western Europe using the example of relations with France. The analysis covers a long chronological period — from the early forms of political and cultural contacts to the era of the Romanovs and Modern times. The main focus is on the influence of the French language on the formation of the Russian elite culture and language environment. The article analyzes the mechanisms of the French language's penetration into Russian society, its functioning as a language of prestige and social differentiation, as well as the processes of lexical and syntactic adaptation of gallicisms in Russian. It is shown that the influence of the French language was socially determined and was primarily associated with the noble and highly educated environment, which further contributed to the formation of a specific model of linguistic and cultural interaction between Russia and France.
