Annotation: The article is devoted to the analysis of the position of women in Japanese politics. It examines the political activity of women and their influence on addressing social issues in Japanese society, starting from the post–World War II period. Special attention is given to the number of women and the positions they held in the cabinet of ministers and other key governmental bodies under different prime ministers of Japan. Japan occupies relatively low positions in global gender equality rankings. The male-dominated government tends to limit the presence of women within its structures. In this context, the article explores the strategies employed by women within political institutions to strengthen their positions. Particular focus is placed on the phenomenon of Sanae Takaichi as the first female prime minister.
