Annotation: Article the complex dynamics of Tibetan-Chinese relations during the Tang Dynasty (7th–9th centuries). The author analyzes the alternation of periods of acute military confrontation and active diplomatic cooperation between the Tibetan Empire and Tang China. Special attention is paid to diplomatic mechanisms: the exchange of embassies, marriage alliances (including the marriage of Songtsen Gampo with Princess Wencheng in 641), the conclusion of peace treaties (in particular, the famous treaty of 821–822), as well as the attempts of both sides to achieve recognition of equal status. At the same time, the key military conflicts for control over strategically important regions — the Qinghai Plateau, the Gansu Corridor, and East Turkestan (Kashgaria) — are examined in detail. The work is based primarily on the analysis of Chinese dynastic chronicles (“Jiu Tang shu”, “Xin Tang shu”, “Zizhi Tongjian”, and others), as well as the studies of Russian (A. G. Malyavkin, E. I. Kychanov, A. K. Kamalov) and Chinese scholars (Wang Zhenping, Zhang Anfu).
