Annotation: Contrastive linguistics (CL) is an applied discipline that systematically compares two languages to identify differences and predict interlingual interference. The primary goal of CL is to serve as a theoretical basis for linguodidactics and translation theory. This article summarizes the theoretical foundations of CL, its structural components (phonetics and phonology, lexicology, grammar), and the contributions of leading Russian (Polivanov, Shcherba, Yusupov) and international (Lado, Matesius) schools. Particular attention is paid to the contrastive phonetics of languages with different systems, such as Uzbek and Chinese. The analysis reveals key sources of student errors due to typological differences, primarily at the suprasegmental (tones) and segmental (aspiration, retroflex consonants) levels, confirming the high predictive value of CL for optimizing the educational process.
