Annotation: The emergence of socio-political terms in the Chinese language raises many questions, from "how did the socio-political terms widely used in modern Chinese appear?" to "were there equivalents in ancient times, and what was their transformation like?" The middle period of the Warring States period was a time of fierce struggle between the Hezong ("Vertical Alliance") and Lianheng ("Horizontal Alliance") alliances. The so-called Hezong was an alliance of weak states against a strong state, while Lianheng was an alliance formed by a strong state against weak states. Therefore, those who dedicated themselves to diplomatic missions aimed at promoting the ideas of such alliances were called zonghengjia (diplomats, orators). Their outstanding representatives were Su Qin and Zhang Yi. According to sources, it is this period that can be considered the birth of foreign diplomacy in ancient China, the formation of a layer of diplomatic terminology.
